Process

Do you ever wonder what goes in to creating a website? You probably know that there is a plethora of cheap tools available to build your own. Do you ever wonder why web development companies charge what they do?
I’ll pull back the curtain and let you know what my process is for creating a website.
- Research - I’m looking for answers to questions. Who are your online competitors? What do they do well? How do they rank with search engines (eg Google, Bing, Yahoo). What sort of words/offers/images are they using to get their message across. Are the sites easy to use? What could be done better?
- Interview - with you (the client). Do you have a logo? What web sites do you like? What colours do you like? Who are your ideal customers? What “feeling” would you like to convey? And anything else I can think of to help me understand what you’re looking for.
- Mockup/Model - I take all the research and then brainstorm. I develop a layout of what your home page could look like and a secondary page. I gather sample pictures. I come up with two or three layouts. Do any of the layouts match your vision?
- Creation - Once design is approved then coding starts and text is written – often I will write the text so that it includes keywords but also is informative, friendly and I try for “under the radar” persuasive. I use online tools to research words and phrases that people type into search engines when they want to find you. I pass all text to you for approval and proof-reading.
- Testing - Site is tested to make sure it conforms to HTML and CSS standards and that it works fine in Internet Explorer 6, 7, Firefox, Safari (Macs).
- Signoff / Launch of new site!
This process can take a little as three weeks depending on complexity, how much material you have available, how available you are to review text, and answer questions.
My rates are affordable. My clients are happy. If this resonates with you email or call me.
